Why a TikTok video can have captions you cannot extract

Understand public caption tracks, text burned into video, and the options available when link extraction fails.

Current audio fallback

If the public caption track cannot be read, BES123 attempts to obtain the public video audio through TikWM and recognizes speech locally in your browser with Whisper. First use downloads a speech model; keep the page open. Maximum 5 minutes and 12 MB. The resolver can be rate limited or unavailable. Speech recognition may make mistakes or generate text during music or silence; review results. There is no translation or OCR.

Text visible on a TikTok video can come from an accessible subtitle track, captions displayed inside the app, or text that has been rendered directly into the video image. These are different sources, and they need different tools.

1. Public subtitle tracks

A track is a separate timed-text resource, often in WebVTT or a caption JSON format. BES123 checks the public video metadata for a readable track. If that metadata and the linked file can be accessed, its text can be returned without recognizing the audio.

2. Captions only available in the app

The TikTok app and a server requesting a public webpage can receive different data. Access restrictions, regional availability and page changes can prevent this website from reading metadata or captions. An extraction failure is not proof that the original video has no captions. You can check the video in TikTok and ask its creator for an exported subtitle file.

3. Text embedded in the video image

Some creators add text in a video editor and export it as part of the picture. There is no separate text track to download in that case. Reading it requires optical character recognition, or OCR. BES123 does not currently perform OCR.

4. Speech with no subtitle track

Turning spoken audio into new text requires automatic speech recognition or manual transcription. BES123 now runs speech recognition in your browser when a public audio source is available. It does not accept video or audio uploads. Changing the website language cannot create a missing subtitle track.
